Houston, Texas (February 22, 2018) – A woman was killed in a Tuesday morning pedestrian crash in Southeast Houston, according to authorities.

The fatal crash occurred around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, on the southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near Wayside.

Witnesses reported that a woman was hit by an oncoming car while attempting to cross the Gulf Freeway.

The female pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities said.

According to the police report, the driver fled the scene

The crash also resulted in the closure of two lanes of the Gulf Freeway for about three and a half hours as the authorities investigate the crash.

An investigation into the fatal crash is underway.
