Three Injured in Four-Vehicle Collision on I-70 in Effingham

Effingham, Texas (February 8, 2018) – At least three people were injured in a collision involving three semi-trucks in Effingham on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a local news report, the accident occurred on the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the National Trail Rest Area near Altamont at about 4:45 p.m.

The police said that two big rigs had been stopped because of traffic. At the same time, an SUV was slowing down behind the two trucks when a third truck failed to slow and rear-ended the car.

The impact of the collision sent the SUV off the roadway while the third truck continued and struck the two trucks.

One of the motorists was seriously injured in the crash and was flown to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Two other people including the female driver of the SUV were also injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

No other information was provided.

An investigation to establish the cause of the accident is ongoing.
